Join us for Greater Things! On Sunday, September 25, we will gather at 8am for a brief time of worship, and then go out into the community to serve in areas surrounding our campus. At 11:30 we’ll regroup for a lunch and celebration. There will be lots of fun games for both kids and adults you won’t want to miss. Our online signup allows friends, families and small groups to sign up together. Invite your friends and neighbors to join you but make sure to sign them up, too.

Below is a list of activities that we will have this year:

BLESSINGS ABOUND
12 and older. 15 people needed.

Volunteer at Blessings Abound thrift store to clean and organize donations and sales floor.

CARE PACKAGES
Any age. 10 people needed.
This group will stay at Lord of Life and create 250 care packages. People at Lord of Life can take the packages and look for opportunities to give them out at a later date to folks they encounter on the street who need basic supplies and an encouraging word.

CLOSING CELEBRATION MEAL AND ACTIVITES
Adults. 15 people needed.
Plan and prepare for lunch that will occur after the morning’s activities. This group will be responsible for setup, planning and serving the lunch, and takedown. Volunteers will help plan and coordinate fun activities for families during the closing celebration such as bounce house, photo booth, snow cones, or face painting.
 

COMMUNITY FOR KIDS
Teens and adults. 8 people needed.
Community for Kids serves over 250 students each week by providing them with the needed food for the weekends when a hot meal is not available through the school. This team will deliver donated food items to Community for Kids and stack the food on the shelves.

GIFT BAG BLESSING
Children and adults. 20 people needed.
We want to recognize those in our immediate community who are working on Sundays. To do this, we will send teams of 2-4 people with gift bags loaded with goodies (bags are assembled by this team before heading out). A great way to surprise and bless those who serve us.

HOMELESS MINISTRY
Teens and adults. 10 people needed.
Work in small teams to take care packages to various places downtown. Pray with and minister to those we meet.

LAUNDRY MAT MINISTRY
All ages. 6 people needed.
Not everyone has the luxury of a washer and dryer at home. Volunteers will help with the expenses of laundry while connecting with the people you serve.
 

LORD OF LIFE LANDSCAPING
Any age. 15 people needed.
Volunteers will work at Lord of Life to prune and clean untended outdoor space to make sure our church remains inviting to others.

LORD OF LIFE NURSERY
Teens and adults. 5 or fewer people needed.
Love babies? This is for you! While parents are serving, it is important to know their children (2 and under) will be well cared for at Lord of Life.

MLM SACK LUNCHES
Children and adults. 8 people needed.
Prepare 450 sack lunches to be used for MLM jobs program and for those needing food. This team will also deliver the sack lunches after preparing them.

NURSING HOME MINISTRY
Children & Adults. 20 people needed.
Senior adults living in nursing homes are one of the most neglected segments of our society. We want to bless them with a morning of activities, listening to their stories and sharing Jesus with them. This is a perfect project for families with young children.

OZANAM BOYS ACTIVITY
Must be 21 or older. 15 people needed.
Engage with boys ages 12-18, who are dealing with emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges by playing games, doing crafts, and having a snack.

OZANAM GIRLS ACTIVITY
Must be 21 or older. 15 people needed.
Engage with girls ages 12-18, who are dealing with emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges by playing games, doing crafts, and having a snack.

OZANAM OUTSIDE LANDSCAPE AND CLEANUP
Must be 21 or older. 35 people needed.
Do general landscaping around the Ozanam campus, including trimming bushes, pulling weeds, trimming trees, and staining picnic tables.

PARK MINISTRY
Any age. 20 people needed.
Families will play together at local parks while looking for opportunities to give gift cards to families they encounter. They will show the love and care of Jesus and listen for spiritual questions or prayer concerns.

SAFEHOME WOMEN’S SHELTER, MEAL SERVICE
13 and older. Teens must be accompanied by an adult. 8 people needed.
SafeHome is a residential facility for battered women and their children. On weekends, the cooks at SafeHome have time off. Our team will be stepping in to prepare and serve a hot breakfast for the women and their children who are residents at SafeHome.

SAFEHOME WOMEN’S SHELTER, OUTDOOR
13 and older. Teens must be accompanied by an adult. 10 people needed.
Volunteers will be doing outdoor work at the SafeHome facility. Bring your own lawn and garden tools. We will be working in the Overland Park area, but due to the nature of the group, we are not able to share the exact location.

TRAIL CLEAN-UP
Any age. 15 people needed.
Volunteers will help clean designated trail areas while interacting people on the trail to share our purpose and Jesus’ love for them.

WATER BOTTLE HANDOUT
Children and adults. 20 people needed.
As people enjoy a morning walk or jog we get to be there to offer a bottle of cold water and a refreshing popsicle. While on the trails, we will also triage the area for trash pickup.
